Public Transport in Granada

:: Maps and Public Transport

One of the best things you can do in Granada is simply wander around the city and explore. Not just because of the monuments scattered throughout it, but also because of its various charming quarters, its unique aromas, its history and the feelings that emanate from its narrow, winding streets that have seen so much happen over the centuries.…
The best way to visit Granada is by foot. But for those of you who prefer not to walk too much, there are regular city buses and also special double-decker tourist buses. The latter offer two different sightseeing routes from which to choose: Monuments in Granada or Romantic Granada, both with multilingual commentary heard through headphones (for more information call 902 101 081).
City buses are the most commonly used means of transport in Granada. In the Albaicín, car access is restricted, but there is a line of air-conditioned microbuses that go up to the Albaicín from the city centre. A bus pass good for unlimited rides over a 24 hour period costs 1.95 euros (for more information call 900 710 900). City buses cover all the main streets of the city, from end to end. There is also a night bus that runs from midnight to 6 a.m on Fridays, Saturdays and the nights before bank holidays, an alternative to taxis for getting around the city at night.

All the long-distance bus routes originating in or arriving at Granada use the main bus station. It is modern and comfortable and has continually updated information screens that announce arrivals and departures. Its only shortcoming is that it is not centrally located and to get there you need to take a city bus or taxi. Carretera de Jaén, s/n.

  • Car Hire

Since most of the streets in Granada's historic centre are not accessible by car, driving in Granada is no easy task. However, to get to know the rest of the province, Sierra Nevada or the nature reserves near the city or to travel to other cities or towns in the region, hiring a car for one or more days can be an interesting option. • Your Own Car

If you decide to visit the city in your own car, you will find it useful to know the names and locations of the main carparks, to choose from in accordance with the places you plan to visit.
El Triunfo on Avenida de la Constitución, opposite the park Jardines del Triunfo. This carpark has 100 spaces and is located, like the carkparks of San Agustín, Puerta Real and Caleta, along the most important thoroughfare in the city, which consists of Puerta Real, Reyes Católicos, Gran Vía and Avenida de la Constitución, where this one is situated. You can take bus lines 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, C and F right on Avenida de la Constitución and, just 100 metres away, on Gran Vía, you can catch the 12 and the microbuses that go to the Albaicín and the Alhambra.
Generalife carpark can be reached by taking the access road to the Alhambra (from the ring road Ronda Sur). This is where you should leave your car to visit the Alhambra. It is on the Camino Viejo del Cementerio, has 500 parking places and is near a Line 2 bus stop (although you will not need the bus if you have your car).
Hotel Luna de Granada carpark on Calle Arabial, 77-79, next to the well-known department store, Hipercor. Tel: 958 27 18 00.
La Caleta carpark is under the large square between Avenida de la Constitución and Avenida de Andalucía. It has 200 parking places and is among the largest in the city. You can reach it directly from the road that goes to and from Málaga (Carretera de Málaga). Once the car is parked, you can take a taxi from the taxi rank right above the carpark, or take bus numbers 3, 4, 6, 9 or 11, which also have stops very nearby.
Pradollano carpark in the Solynieve winter resort, in Sierra Nevada. The road leading up to Sierra Nevada takes you practically to the entrance. Located at an altitude of 2000 metres, in the Pradollano development, this underground carpark is the largest in Spain, with capacity for 1500 cars. It is the ideal place to leave the car while you enjoy an exciting day on the slopes of Sierra Nevada.
Puerta Real carpark is at Acera del Darro, 30, under Fuente de las Batallas. Tel: 958 26 24 03. Very well situated and with good connections, the carpark in Puerta Real has space for 200 cars. Next to it you will find bus stops for the lines 1, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, and C. Above this carpark is one of the liveliest parts of the city, Fuente de las Batallas, a large, centrally-located square with plenty of benches and a fountain in the middle.
Pedro Antonio de Alarcón carpark is located in the part of town famous for its nightlife. It has 150 places and is the best way to avoid the traffic problems that tend to arise in this area on weekends. Although no city bus runs along the street, just 50 metres away is Camino de Ronda, where you can catch lines 5, 10 and 11. Also, Plaza Einstein is at the end of the street, and has a stop for bus line U.
San Agustín Tel: 958 20 46 59. This carpark is located in the Plaza de San Agustín, right next to the Cathedral, and is the best one to use if you want to visit the centre of the city. It has space for 447 cars distributed in 6 underground levels. To reach it you take the streets Cárcel Baja and Elvira. The easiest way is to go up the street named Calle San Matías, turn towards Gran Vía and then follow the signs (which will require you to go to Calle Elvira in order to be able to cross Gran Vía). The construction of this carpark was delayed for over two years due to the discovery of Arab archaeological remains during the excavations, something that happens frequently whenever work is done in the old part of the city. The ruins are on display at the Archaeology Museum. From the carpark you can easily walk to Plaza Nueva, the starting point of or an essential destination along a great number of itineraries. Or you can take any of the city bus lines 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12 or C, which run along Gran Vía.
Under construction: * Plaza Einstein (between the Science Faculty and Calle Pedro Antonio de Alarcón).
In addition, there are other, smaller carparks throughout the city. Check the Yellow Pages if you find yourself in need of one.
