:: The Weather
The climate in the province of Granada is quite cool --although often sunny-- in winter, with temperatures that frequently dip below freezing, and hot in summer, with high temperatures often above 35 degrees centigrade. Temperature variations are significant throughout the year, with differences of more than 20º C in one day being quite common.
The weather in Granada tends to be somewhat contradictory, although its location in the southern part of Spain means that the sun shines a good part of the time. It all depends on the time of year you will be visiting, of course. We recommend that you bring warm clothes in winter and lightweight clothes in summer. As for precipitation, generally speaking it does not rain very often but snow makes an appearance on the coldest days of the year in the province's highest mountains, Sierra Nevada.
The area surrounding the city of Granada is known for its continental climate, as illustrated by its temperatures. Although the year's average temperature is 14.8º C, it is a cool 6º in January and a warm 25º in August. Warm weather predominates throughout the long summer and during the spring and autumn that tend to be brief, with the contrast of a cold winter that lasts only a few short months.
